What the SAR Does: Preserving History

The SAR is a historical, educational, and patriotic non-profit, United States 501(c)3, corporation that seeks to maintain and extend:

- the institutions of American freedom
- an appreciation for true patriotism
- a respect for our national symbols
- the value of American citizenship
- the unifying force of e pluribus unum that has created, from the people of many nations, one nation and one people.

We do this by perpetuating the stories of patriotism, courage, sacrifice, tragedy, and triumph of the men who achieved the independence of the American people in the belief that these stories are universal ones of man’s eternal struggle against tyranny, relevant to all time, and will inspire and strengthen each succeeding generation as it too is called upon to defend our freedoms on the battlefield and in our public institutions.

Members of the Mecklenburg Chapter participate in the Mecklenburg Color Guard.

We help preserve and promote our precious American history through celebrating our Patriots by:

- Grave markings & wreath laying ceremonies
- Parade participations & Color Guard ceremonies
- Battleground memorials & remembrance ceremonies
- Public education appearances in schools and other organizations
- Participation and support with the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Children of the American Revolution
- Honoring law enforcement, fire fighters and other heroic public servants
- Discussing the Revolutionary Era and Wars in our organized meetings
- Honoring Eagle Scouting and Boy Scouting
- Honoring JROTC Students
- Honoring Oral Presentation, Theme Writing & Poster Illustrations of our young people
- Honoring our own Chapter members with their service of Patriotism and volunteerism
- Honoring businesses who properly display the American Flag
- Participating in local Patriotic ceremonies dressed in Revolutionary uniform
- Sharing fellowship with Chapters across North Carolina and the Country

Being a member of the National SAR, the North Carolina Society, and the Mecklenburg Chapter is an exciting and personally-motivating opportunity.

There is so much history from the Revolutionary War Era that happened right here in the immediate Charlotte area, not to mention across the great State of North Carolina.

We invite you to contact us and let us help you discover why being a part of this wonderful organization can be one of the most important decisions you make!

Patriot Grave Site Registrations & Grave Markings

Discovering, registering and honoring our Patriot's grave sites is one of the highest honors that we can bestow upon our ancestors and Patriots. Listed below is a current registry of documented and registered Patriot gravesites across North Carolina. You will notice that the GPS coordinates are listed for each grave marking. This will easily help you enter these coordinates into a Google Maps location finder to give you driving directions!
