Liberty Tree 2026 Project

HERE IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO CONTRIBUTE TO PLANTING A LIBERTY TREE

The Mecklenburg Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution has received approval from Mecklenburg Parks & Recreation to erect a Liberty Tree and marker on the Battle of McIntyre’s Farm site along Beattie’s Ford Rd in north Charlotte.  Approval is conditional upon completing a petition of 25 signatures (of which we already have most).

The Battle of McIntyre’s Farm (October 3, 1780) saw Mecklenburg Patriot militia ambush a much larger British foraging force, helping drive it back to Charlotte and becoming one of only three Revolutionary War battle sites in Mecklenburg County, alongside the Battle of Charlotte and the Battle of Cowan’s Ford.
The County plans to clean up the site by this fall, and plans are in the works for the American Battlefield Trust to install interpretative signage at the site.
Cost for Monument: $6,725. 50% ($3,363) down payment required to order.

The cost of the tree is $145 for a 2″ caliper American Elm, the traditional species for liberty trees (like the original in Boston Common).

The vendor is Classic Bronze Resources, LLC (the same vendor that recently did the DAR monument in Independence Park).

Depending on our fundraising, the SAR’s George Washington Endowment Fund could assist with our funding. But they will want to see a strong effort from our Chapter. We’ve already made contact with the head of the fund.

Please contact Chad Lloyd at 828-450-5049 or chad.lloyd@yahoo.com with any questions.
